The home of Kathy Galvin and Michael Costanzo is within walking distance of the Lawrence Halprin designed, pedestrian mall in downtown Charlottesville. The original house, won the 1939 World’s Fair “Small House” Design award, but it proved to be too small for a growing family. Plus, it is every architect’s dream to design their own living spaces. Preserving the original character and scale of this lovely, unique house became a primary design goal for Galvin Architects, in addition to gutting and replacing the 1940s era first floor kitchen & bathroom and adding a ground floor bedroom.
