As the Assistant Director of the University of Virginia, Design Resource Center, Ms. Galvin worked with the Renaissance Planning Group (RPG) to design, illustrate, codify and evaluate preferred development patterns within the Eastern Planning Initiative (EPI) Study area. The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) launched the EPI project in order to curb suburban sprawl in keeping with the groundbreaking, 1998 “Sustainability Accords.” The final analysis demonstrated that compact, walk-able environments consumed less gas due to fewer required car trips, and preserved more land within the watershed which gave rise to better water quality.
